Insightly is a cloud based CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system targeted at small to medium sized businesses. It is currently free for up to 3 users and then has increasing price points as users move from 6 to 15 through to 40.
CRM software manages interactions with an organisation’s future and potential customers with the aim of account management and sales growth. Although Insightly is setup to handle this it can also be used to manage a broader range of business activities such as project management and team working via allocation of tasks and project management.
At ImpKISS we’ve found it to be an invaluable tool to manage our business as we can setup the project we are working on and then allocate associated tasks to each team member.

There is also a dashboard that lists all recent activity. This can be filtered by user or activity type. Contacts can be set up with all the usual information (email address, phone numbers etc.) but also social media details so, for example, you can view their twitter activity within their contact details. There is a news tab for each organisation that links to Google News giving recently published updates.
One of the key features of Insightly is the ability to connect different elements of the system, so a task can be linked to a project or a contact can be linked to an organisation. This makes it easy to identify different relationships and connect information. So you can drill into a project and work through all its tasks and notes and at the same time view the contacts and organisations connected with it.
One very useful feature of the system is that each project has its own unique Insightly email address. You can cc or forward correspondence to this address and it will be stored in one location within the project. This makes it easy to review emails associated with any project or opportunity as they are all held in one place.
You can set milestones for projects so tasks and activities can be directed towards key points in time and these can be viewed for the business as whole or from within a project or opportunity. Another nice feature is that you can personalise the Insightly web address for your organisation.
This post has given a brief overview of what Insightly can do but check it out for yourself if you haven’t already done so. One thing we would say is that you shouldn’t be put off trying it out if you don’t have a highly developed sales structure just yet. As described above, it can be also be used to control your business and manage its day to day activities, in particular projects and the tasks and milestones associated with them.
